May Day - Mayflower Day!
This year mayflowers (football lily, Haemanthus Multiflorus) bloomed right on the dot - May 1st, 2013. Following are some pics (more pics would be added as they reach their peak):

The plant bearing this flower is a species of cactus - "Epiphyllum oxypetalum".
The flower blooms only once a year and that too only during the night for approx 12 hrs. It reaches its peak at around midnight and then starts its decline.
Here in our locality it is also known as Brahmakamal, which seems to be incorrect as real Brahmakamals (Saussurea obvallata) are found in high mountains (3000 to 4600 m) of Himalaya range.
Anyway this is a rare and awesomely beautiful flower with lovely sweet fragrance and its a treat to get the opportunity today to see it blooming in my small garden.
Since past four years we are celebrating the arrival of these flowers in our house. This year we are blessed with two events - first on 28th July there were two flowers and then today this single flower on another plant :)
